As the primary performance space within the Hult Center for the Performing Arts, Silva Concert Hall provides Eugene with a flexible performance space for audiences of 2500, as well as a performance venue for Symphony, pops, touring Broadway, and other groups. Opened during the birth of modern electronic enhancement, Silva’s original design leaned on electronics to provide support for typically unamplified performance types, and emphasized intimacy (as defined by physical distance to the stage) over natural acoustic support. The musical growth of the Eugene Symphony and that of its audience led to a feasibility study investigating the steps towards improvement as a facility for orchestra, culminating in the installation of a reverberation enhancement system. The design and installation of an orchestra shell and ACS system was completed in 2002.
