Project Description

The Rockport Music Festival began performances in their new home in June, 2010. Previous performances were held in a gallery space that was limited with a small stage, moderate ventilation, and less than perfect acoustics. Their new space, the Shalin Liu Performance Center, solves all of these issues and more.

This $20 million hall was the designed by Epstein Joslin Architects and Kirkegaard Associates. The new hall is an intimate space – holding 330 guests – with a warm interior of walnut, stone, and Douglas fir finishes. But the most striking element of the new space is the massive window behind the stage that looks out over Rockport Harbor. Acoustically designed to separate the room from all outside noise, the opening allows stunning views of the Harbor, while a movable screen system allows the back stage wall to be closed when needed for acoustic and visual enhancement.

Kirkegaard Associates is responsible for the acoustics as well as the Audio and Video systems throughout the hall. The space has elevated Rockport Music and music aficionados alike!
