This new music building will be located just south of the School’s Pick-Staiger Concert Hall and Regenstein Hall of Music on the southern end of Northwestern’s lakefront campus. The new 6 level building will house academic faculty offices, classrooms, keyboard labs, lobby, music tech labs and teaching studios for choral, opera, piano and voice faculty. The new building will enable the Bienen School of Music to consolidate all of its programs in one area for the first time in more than 30 years.
The main components are performance/rehearsal spaces, including a 400-seat recital hall with a breathtaking view to the downtown Chicago skyline, a flexible opera rehearsal room with a view to the lake, and a choral rehearsal room. The rehearsal spaces will be used at times for formal performances.
Kirkegaard Associates is providing room acoustics, noise and vibration control, and AV consulting services.
Construction will begin in 2011 with completion projected to be in 2013.
