Project Description

Kirkegaard Associates provided room acoustics, mechanical noise and vibration control, and audio/visual consulting services for the renovation of the historic Knoll at Stanford. The project renovated the home of the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) and the Center for Computer Assisted Research in the Humanities. Completed in 2005, the building holds a 100-seat performance space on the third floor, a listening room that permits the full-spherical loudspeaker arrangements in the basement, and open plan work areas that encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, state-of-the-art sound studios, and a permanent lobby exhibit of the history of music technology The rear court, lined with a continuous balcony and protected from the winds by the arms of this grand mansion, permits outdoor performances throughout the year.
