Kirkegaard Associates designs Chicago’s new Northwestern’s Prentice Women’s Hospital for state-of-the-art audio/video technology
March 20, 2008
More than thirty years after the first Women’s Hospital opened its doors, Chicago can now boast a replacement: a new structure equipped with the latest medical technology that promises to take care of women’s medical needs.
Seven years in the making, this beautiful and functional space designed by local architects, VOA Associates and OWP/P Architects; acoustics consulting firms Shen Milsom Wilke; and Kirkegaard Associates, not only focuses on the well-being of its patients by providing the most up-to-date medical technology available, it also provides a learning center for members of the community to keep abreast of a myriad of health topics.
Kirkegaard’s role in the project focused on audio and video consulting services for numerous spaces throughout the facility. Design services included the first and third floors of the building in auditoriums, classrooms, and an administrative conference center. The project spans the full range of audio and video systems functionality, including video projection, video recording and playback, hearing assistance, audio recording and playback, speech reinforcement, video/teleconferencing, and automated controls.
