This project is based on an innovative and successful urban high school prototype also designed by Kirkegaard for the Chicago Public School system. Kirkegaard provided Room Acoustics, Mechanical Noise Control and Audiovisual design of the gymnasium/auditorium, multi-purpose/dance room, pool, instrumental/choral classrooms, and support spaces. Special attention was paid to the gymnasium/auditorium which supports drama, choir/instrumental performances and athletics. The acoustics of this space include adjustable elements to adapt to the wide range of uses. Adjacent train noise and ground vibration, as well as jet noise from Midway Airport, were addressed with high degrees of sound and vibration isolation of the Gymnasium/Auditorium.
