The Artis Center for Adaptive Innovation and Creativity. The Artis Center is home to the university’s College of Visual and Performing Arts and benefits students in the Waldron College of Health and Human Services and the College of Nursing.

Radford University, a state school in western Virginia, wanted a new building to encourage interdisciplinary learning – especially interaction between the arts and the healing arts. The new building replaces several older buildings, drawing Music, Theater, Dance, Art, and Design together under one roof, along with innovative clinic space for Radford's strong health and human services program. The building's many flexible spaces – teaching spaces, movement spaces, and maker spaces, a performance hub with learning stairs - are shared by all the building's programs. More traditional specialty laboratories include music practice rooms, a courtyard with an amphitheater, a flexible “black box” theater, and proscenium theater.

Kirkegaard also designed the audiovisual systems for the proscenium theatre, which contains a performance loudspeaker system for supporting musical theatre, dance, and drama performances.
